Write with ease: Which skills do I need as an author?

0 Kommentare

Do we need different qualities and skill sets to become a successful author than people did in the days of Melville,  Twain, or Goethe and Schiller? I don’t think so. If I take a look at the basics, everything is still the same:

  • A good idea that can sustain the entire story.
  • Talent.
  • Craft.
  • Access to the source of my creativity (inspiration).
  • Intuition.
  • Good time management for writing in a busy life.
  • Discipline to ignore the call of the TV or sports bar.
  • Skills to promote myself – or let myself be promoted.
  • A feeling for the market and my readers‘ needs.
Okay, so Melville and Twain, Goethe and Schiller did not have television, but they were subject to other distractions – even without the internet. They didn’t have social media, but they still needed to promote their books and brand. Today we have it easy as authors! We have computers and don’t need to write out everything by hand or with a typewriter. We can self-publish our works if we don’t find patrons (publishers)! We have many possibilities. Good ideas are all around us, even in our everyday lives. Open up your senses and notebook and get writing. Today. I’m looking forward to your book!
